Game & Practice Info

Many parents have a lot of questions when they first enroll their child in an athletic program, we hope to answer those questions about WSLax here.  This information is to generally answer those questions.  For more specific information about our programs, please go to the Program Information section of our website.

Team selection:

Our teams are selected through a blind-draft process.  The goal of our draft is to ensure that the teams are as evenly balanced as possible.  We will not "stack" teams and want all of our teams to have the same opportunity to compete.  Because our goal is team parity, we do NOT honor requests that certain players be placed on teams with each other.  However, unless parents request otherwise, we will place siblings together.  We do our best to make balanced teams throughout WSLax. Please understand that although we do our best to make the teams even, sometimes we get different results.

What will the lacrosse program be like for my child?

It is our hope to provide your child a fun-filled, welcoming, and respectful environment in which to learn the game of lacrosse and develop an understanding of good sportsmanlike behavior.  In the Young Guns, we work on developing fundamental lacrosse skills through exercises and scrimmages.  In the older age groups the players also learn strategy and teamwork.  There will generally be one or two game days per week with two practices each week.

What will practice be like?

Your coach will come to the field with a plan in mind.   It is our hope, that no player stands in line and will remain engaged for the entire practice.  Parents of younger age groups are asked to be present during practices.

What will a game be like?

During a game the players must be aware of directions from the sidelines for substitutions and positioning.  The coach will give direction to his players.  For all age groups, we endorse coaches calling directions to players but do not endorse constant directing or haranguing of players on the field. Players need to learn to make their own decisions on the field. If a coach needs to correct a mistake, we expect the coach to take the player out of the game and speak to the player about the issue.
