Programs Overview

Listed here are brief descriptions for all our programs. If after reviewing, you still have questions, check out our Contact Us page. Detailed program descriptions are listed below.

Age levels:

Young Guns-Co-ed 1st and 2nd grade.  Young Guns focus on basic skills and fundamentals of the game (catching, throwing, ground balls, cradling, moving with the ball).  There is no contact at this age level.  Young Guns will play/practice once or twice a week with two weekend games a season against the Greensboro Young Guns.  Young Guns is only offered in the spring; for the fall season the William White YMCA offers a Young Guns program.

Bantam-Co-ed 3rd and 4th grade.  The focus at this level is on learning the fundamentals of the boys' game (catching, throwing, ground balls, basic defense, moving without the ball) and having fun.

Girls Elementary-Girls 4th and 5th grade.  Here we build on fundamentals and stress team concepts.  Girls are to provide their own stick, eye protection and mouthguard.

Boys Elementary-Boys 5th and 6th grade.  Here we build on the fundamentals and stress team play.

Girls Middle School-Girls 6th through 8th grade.  At this level we begin to prepare our players for high school lacrosse.  Girls are required to provide their own stick and eye protection.

Boys Middle School-Boys 7th and 8th grade.  At this level we begin to prepare our players for high school lacrosse.

Seasons:

Spring-This is our primary competitive season.  Players are divided into teams and play a full schedule against other TYLA teams from Greensboro, Kernersville, Oak Ridge, and Burlington.  The season runs from late February to mid-May.

Fall-This season runs from September through October and is designed to introduce new players to the game and to refine the skills of our returning players.  Play will be one day a week and will include scrimmages against other youth lacrosse programs.

All Stars-After the Spring season players may be nominated to try out for our three All Star teams (U-11, U-13, U-15).  These teams will participate in Greensboro LaxFest and one or two other tournaments.  All Stars requires out of town travel and additional fees.  All Star season will end in mid-June.

Equipment Loaner Program

Co-ed and boys programs require that the player wear a helmet, shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves, and a protective cup.

The purpose of this program is to allow new families to try lacrosse with out "investing" in equipment the first year.  Through this program you may rent a helmet, shoulder pads, arm pads and gloves.  Our policy is that a new player is allowed to participate in the loaner program for one season (Spring or Fall).  After that we ask that you be considerate of other new players and purchase your own equipment.

When you participate in the program a refundable deposit of $175 is required along with a usage fee of $50.  WSLax will return the deposit after the equipment has been returned clean and in good condition.  WSLax has the right to retain the deposit if the equipment is not returned within the designated time.  Fees will be assessed for incomplete sets and damaged equipment.

All players are responsible for providing their own lacrosse stick, mouth guard and athletic cup.
