Thank you for your interest in Winston-Salem Girls’ Lacrosse

Fall Registration is now OPEN!

FALL 2020 at Fulton YMCA

All fall girls’ practices and scrimmages will be held at the Fulton YMCA.  Our fall 2020 program will be a modified version of practice and competition. We are offering small group instruction within each age group:

@ Fulton YMCA

Wednesday practice

Saturday scrimmage

High School (gr 9-12th)

6:30-7:30pm

12:00-1:00pm field 1

Middle School (gr 6-8th)

5:30-6:30pm

11:00-12:00pm field 1

Elementary (gr 2-5th)

5:00-6:00pm

10:00-11:00am field 2

Each group will have their own practice session on Wednesday’s, and their own “intersquad” scrimmage session on Saturday’s.  We will be making teams from our own age groups to play against each other for scrimmages.  This ensures we are remaining in a small group setting, as well as limiting the size of gatherings and the number of interactions our players and coaches have. Teams will be “even” within each age group; we will not have “beginners” vs “returning” players.  Teams will be determined each week by the coaches’ committee.

FAQ’s:

  • Does my daughter need to have played lacrosse before in order to register?

No! This is the perfect time to try a new sport without the commitment of a full season. Please join us! We will have multiple coaches for each age group, with the ability to assist with different skill levels during practice.

  • What equipment will my daughter need to play lacrosse?

Girls lacrosse does not require a lot of equipment.  Girls will need a lacrosse stick, protective goggles, and a mouthguard. We recommend wearing cleats as we will practice and play on grass fields.

**(boys lacrosse sticks and girls lacrosse sticks are different, make sure you ask before purchasing if you are not sure)

  • Will we be wearing uniforms for Saturday scrimmages?

No. Uniforms will be distributed for competition during our spring season if we are back to “normal” circumstances. Players of ALL age groups will wear pinnies during Saturday scrimmages.  Players should arrive at their field wearing solid black shorts, or solid black leggings (weather permitting).  If players choose to wear a layer under their pinney, tops should be white short-sleeves or white long-sleeves.

  • What if we are unable to attend one of our scheduled practices or scrimmages?

Please do your best to make sure our fall program works with your schedule before you register.  We do understand that life can be uncertain, especially right now.  If you find you are unexpectedly unable to make it to a practice or scrimmage, please contact your daughter’s coach as soon as possible. If you are unable to reach your coach, you should email Kate Mullen (Girls’ Director): mullen7404@gmail.com

**your daughter should NOT attend a scheduled practice or scrimmage if she or anyone in your home is feeling unwell.

SAFETY:

Please refer to our website home-page for our complete “Return to Play” safety protocols. Here are a few to keep in mind for our first day of practice:

  • Safety Administrators will be in attendance for each practice and scrimmage to make sure guidelines are being practiced appropriately by all participants.
  • Our coaches will be masked for all instruction with all ages.  We ask that players comply by wearing a mask to the field, but they will not be required to wear a mask while playing.
  • Please do not bring bags/backpacks to the field.  Each player will have their items separate from their peers during breaks or when not in use. Players SHOULD bring their own water and not share.
  • We ask that parents remain in their vehicles during practices.
  • We ask that spectators during scrimmages wear a mask or face-covering and respectfully distance on the sideline.

*Please know that we are grateful to offer this in-person program during such challenging times.  Help us conduct our fall session safely by complying with the guidelines we have put in place.  We respect all opinions on this matter, but the bottomline is, this is what it takes to have lacrosse back!  Thank you for your cooperation.
